Juice Cleanse
Each evening, I have a glass of homemade nut milk. I’d never done a juice cleanse that used nut milk before but I was inspired by the Cooler Cleanse to try it. It’s such a nice way to end the day!  Go with homemade though. Store bought has a lot of additives!

Fitness/Health Tumblr

I’m trying to decide if I should create another Tumblr for fitness/health, change this one to reflect only that or do nothing. haha Thoughts?

GO GET YOUR SWEAT ON!

Just finished a hot 25min run outside with my dog and now I’m doing this… Sunset Workout from Tone it Up!

in my belly today

  • three homemade whole wheat pineapple coconut pancakes topped with natural apple sauce, homemade date syrup and unsweetened coconut
  • coconut water
  • 1/2 Synergy guava kombucha
  • 1.5 whole wheat pita bread with homemade red pepper hummus and baba ganoush
  • fresh juice smoothie with juiced oranges, grapefruit, broccoli, carrots, zucchini and pineapple then blended with banana and ice
  • coconut water
  • apple
  • whole wheat gluten-free noodles with homemade bell pepper mushroom sauce, one Gardein “chicken” strip and some breaded zucchini
  • homemade zucchini date muffin
  • green tea

All vegan, of course!

in my belly today

  • two slices whole wheat french bread w/ vegan cream cheese, eggplant bacon (eggplant/soy sauce/liquid smoke), tofu scramble, Veganaise and spinach
  • fresh juice made with two oranges, some pinapple and a few carrots
  • Probar Superfood Slam
  • tortilla chips + guacamole
  • 2 margaritas + mini Coronas
  • fresh lemondrop shot
  • Stoli blueberry + Gingerale
  • sandwich w/ whole what french bread, avocado, cucumber, mushroom, black olives, Veganaise and vegan cream cheese
  • some fresh pineapple

What can I say, I went out for happy hour with friends! One thing I love about being vegan (or a result of being vegan, I should say) is the fact that you ARE more limited and it’s harder to eat crap food. Not the healthiest day but honestly, we all know how much worse it could be (for some people). I’m glad that THIS is what a less healthy day looks like for me…because it is much healthier than it once was.

The Humane Society of the United States has released the unconscionable resultsof its undercover investigation into an egg factory owned by Kreider Farms, a top egg producer in Pennsylvania.

Among the findings:

  • Birds were severely overcrowded in cages more cramped than the national average; each hen received only 54–58 square inches of space on which to spend her life.
  • Injured and dead hens, including mummified bird carcasses, were found inside cages with living hens laying eggs for human consumption.
  • Hens were left without water for days when a water source malfunctioned, causing many to die.
  • Hens’ legs, wings, and heads were found trapped in cage wires and automated feeding machinery.
  • A thick layer of dead flies on the barn floors caused a crunching sound when walking on it.

“These allegations by the Humane Society are a gross distortion of Kreider Farms, our employees and the way we care for birds,” Ron Kreider, the president of Kreider Farms, told the New York Times’ Nicholas Kristof.

This Is All Kinds of Wrong of the Day: The Humane Society decided to investigate when it noticed Kreider didn’t support legislation that would standardize and upgrade the welfare of egg-laying chickens across the industry. The Egg Products Inspection Act Amendments of 2012 is adelicious compromise between the Humane Society and the industry trade groupUnited Egg Producers.
